Sponge schematic guide
Pick .schem for WorldEdit, FAWE, and most other modern Java build tools.
New to .schem?
The normal schematic file for WorldEdit. You load it, stand where you want the build, and paste.
What you need
WorldEdit or FAWE, either as a mod or a server plugin
Permission to load and paste schematics
An empty spot to try the first paste
What is .schem?
This is the schematic format modern tools use. It stores blocks by name, so details like which way stairs face and whether a block is underwater survive the trip. Bloxelizer can save the normal version or the newer v3 version, and both end in .schem.
WorldEdit schematic documentation →How to use a .schem export
01
Export as .schem
Pick “schem” to be safe, or “schem (v3)” if your tool asked for v3.
02
Add it to the schematics folder
Copy the file into the schematics folder that WorldEdit or FAWE uses.
03
Load and paste
Load the file, stand where you want the build, then paste it. Try a preview first if your tool has one.
When to use it
Pick the normal .schem for almost everything. Pick .schem (v3) only if a tool tells you it wants Sponge Schematic v3.
Things to watch out for
Older tools can refuse a v3 file even though the name looks the same, so use the normal one if you are not sure. Your Minecraft or server also has to know the blocks in the build.
Useful tips
Watch where it pastes
Builds paste around a saved starting point, so try a big one in an empty area first.
Keep versions matched
A server on an older Minecraft cannot place blocks that only exist in newer versions.
