The .stl and .nbt formats

.stl is the stereolithography format of CAD tools and 3D printing: a raw triangle soup with no materials, textures, or colour in either its ASCII or binary form. A structure-block .nbt is Minecraft Java Edition's native format — a block palette, positioned blocks, and a data version — read in-game by a structure block that caps at 48 blocks per axis. The conversion voxelizes the triangles into a block grid, and because the source carries no colour, the palette you pick decides how the structure looks.

How to convert .stl to .nbt

01

Upload your .stl file in the converter below.

02

Set the build size and choose the block palette in the preview panel, then apply.

03

Leave .nbt selected as the export format and download the structure.

When to use this conversion

Good for dropping a CAD shape into a datapack, a custom world generation feature, or an adventure map, where a vanilla .nbt is the only format the game will read.

Compatibility notes

Structure blocks read at most 48 blocks per axis; use the chunked NBT export for anything bigger and it splits into several origin-named files in a zip. Since .stl stores no colour, the block palette you select is the only thing determining the structure's appearance.
