The .stl and .schem formats

.stl is the stereolithography format used by CAD tools and 3D printing. It stores a raw triangle soup — nothing but geometry, with no materials, no textures, and no colour information in either the ASCII or binary variant. A Sponge .schem is gzipped NBT holding namespaced Minecraft block states for WorldEdit and FAWE. The conversion voxelizes those triangles into a block grid, and because the source carries no colour, the palette you pick decides entirely how the build looks.

How to convert .stl to .schem

01

Upload your .stl file in the converter below.

02

Set the build size and pick the block palette in the preview panel, then apply.

03

Leave .schem selected as the export format and download the schematic.

When to use this conversion

Use this route for models that came out of a CAD package, a 3D printing site, or a scanner — shapes where the geometry is the point and the colour is something you choose in Minecraft.

Compatibility notes

The .stl format carries no colour or material data, so the export uses the block palette you select rather than sampling the model. Pick a single-block palette for a clean silhouette or a textured palette for surface variation.
